If the Party for Freedom wins the most seats, will it form the next Dutch govt?

Posted on March 13th, 2010 by admin

Or will other parties form a sort of coalition? How do Dutch politcal dyanmics work?
Angus Reid poll had it tied with the Christian Democrats?

The PVV is not likely to win more than 40% of the votes at best, as in the Dutch system no party did for a long time, they would need more than 50% to govern without other parties, which is very unlikely to happen.

The other parties have promised that they will not form a coalition with the PVV, but some parties have shown to be untrustworthy in that respect in the past.
Let us just hope that the Dutch voters will get their mind before the next elections and that we will not have the situation where the PVV will be big enough to have any influence.

As a rule the biggest party will start trying to make a coalition, it is supposed to be the coalition that can count on the most support in the ‘tweede kamer’, with the people we voted for.
If that does not work out, the next try is with the second biggest party and if they can not get it working, there might be a new try again.
If the people from the biggest two or three parties can not get it working, often someone not bound to a party will be asked to form a coalition, talking with all politicians to see if he can find a group that will have a majority in the parliament.
I do not remember any elections where it turned out to be impossible, but I am not completely sure.

If the coalition has a small majority, it is likely to fall somewhere in the next 4 year, and that has proven to be very common.

is democracy better served in coalition governments or in a two-party system government?

Posted on March 11th, 2010 by admin

The Two-party system barely qualifies as democracy. At least with a coalition government, everyone gets a chance to voice their opinion, and have some input as to how things are done.

The coalition leaders of the Green Party…?

and the Social Democratic Party attempt to negotiate a new agreement. They fail. The most likely outcome at this point will be a

A. call for a vote of confidence
B. constructive vote of confidence
C. cabinet crisis
D. call for new elections

Political Science home work… Im so dumb…

Cabinet crisis

We need Coalition government or Single party govt?

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by admin

A coalition government is quite fine because it brings about a balance in governance. But then the constituents should be responsible and offer
constructive criticism to the government when and where warranted. An irresponsible party
which is just extending support from "outside"
the government and holding the government to ransom because of its obsolete ideologies is
not only a serious obstacle to the smooth functioning of the government and national progress but a millstone round the neck both of the government and the people. The lead party of such a coalition would be well advised to
jettison such backstabbers and call their bluff
even if it means seeking a fresh mandate from the people.
A single party government on the other hand is
spared of such blackmail but the danger is always there on two counts.Firstly, perpetuation of dynastic policies and politics and secondly
party members and ministers etc. engaged in self serving activities and personal aggrandizement.
Ultimately it devolves on the people to vote for a government which they feel would serve their best interests. Here again in a country like India
where there are more people below the poverty line, elections could and do turn out to be
a farce because of corrupt practices followed
by candidates who are prepared to go to any lengths to get elected.
The whole scenario and outlook do seem grim.
Fortunately, the resilience of the Indian citizen
makes up for all the deficiencies stated and not stated and contributes to the slow but steady progress of the nation despite the odds.India
and Indians forever.

QUETTA Nov 26 (APP): The federal government has tabled the long-awaited Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package based on 39 points at a joint sitting of parliament. Singe Party Government vs. Coalition?

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by admin

what are the pros and cons of these two? which one do you think is better?

or do you have any helpful links…i will be debating this topic tomorrow so anything helps!

thank you!

I’m more familiar with the US where we have a 2-Party system, and both Parities always have a considerable amount of influence. Often the President (head of the Executive Branch of government) is from a different Party from the majority in Congress. Even when the majority in Congress is the same Party as the President, the minority Party is by no means powerless. This system includes the concept of the "loyal opposition." This means that the Party that loses will accept the decision of the majority (even if they don’t like it) and will not attempt a coup. They will work within the system to regain power, and they always get it sooner or later.
The coalition system happens when there are a number of different Parties, none of which has a chance at the majority. They have to negotiate among themselves as to whom and what they will support. France is well known for this system, in which Parliament consists of many Parties ranged Right to Left. I certainly prefer this to a single Party system in which there is virtually no choice. But I’m inclined to think the 2-Party system is more practical.
