For those who do not know how to surf, there is always the alternative. They can always ride with skimboards.
Unlike riding a wave, skimboards glides across the beach on thin waves. It is surfing without paddling and finding a perfect wave. This can be done in shallow waters gliding away from the ocean, or it can be done in just a layer of water. Most people do this sport on a river, or on tide flats.
The beginner skimmer will always start by running onto the shore and hopping onto the board as they toss it thin waves. This is the most basic thing to learn. Once this is mastered, skimmers move on to more difficult tricks.
Some of the more advance moves that boarders have thought of involve shifting and really getting into the wave. One move is called the Wrap. It can be accomplished by the boarder reaching the wave and shifting their weight so the person can wrap around the wave. This will also put them back onto the shore. But this is not the only move that has become popular.
The Wrap Barrel is even more advanced trick for the skimmer looking to take their skills to the next level. Instead of coming back to shore, the skimmer turns farther into the wave and basically gets into the barrel. Other tricks include slide-slipping and pumping the board to maintain a certain speed.
