How did the US Civil Rights Movement affect party coalitions?
Posted on November 18th, 2009 by admin
I’m studying for a final, and I’m stuck on a potential question.
I understand that the answer will either be that the US civil rights movement attracted African-Americans to the Democratic party, or it drove white southerners away from the Democratic party. Both answers seem correct to me, but obviously, one of them is *more* correct.
Help, please?

It drove white Southerner’s toward the Republican party.
Google the Southern strategy. There are articles out there that tell all about it.
One of the really good ones is from Time magazine.
