If the nation is to be ruled by coalition, that means that people do not have faith in any single party.
In that case best thing will be a President rule, until one single party can come in majority. The whole excercise of voting and spending can be avoided.
In practice, only 50% of the people vote. If a contestant gets 30% of total votes, he can win. We forget that the 20% votes are against him in addition to the 50% people who did not vote.
It should be declared that a member is not qualified for assembly or parliament unless the votes he got are more than the total of his competitors and the votes not cast.

If you are talking about India, then a single party government is considered ideal, with just about three parties in the fray, with independents of course constituting the fourth faction. The reason is not too far behind to look for.The recent farce enacted by the
C O C K A L O R U M S in the Left parties and the consequent acrimonious debate in the
Parliament over the Confidence Motion are
adequate to prove my point.
Incidentally,it was never expected that a person of the stature of L.K.Advani and his party would stoop so low as to level charges of bribery when they knew full well that the Motion
was going to get through because of the dramatic changes in numbers.Unfortunately,
these insignificant leaders(that is all they now
have been reduced to)cannot be sued for defamation because the charges were bandied about in the House. It could very well have been that once they knew the government could not be defeated, they arranged for some more
insignificant members to carry currency in to the well of the House and scream that they had been paid money to abstain.Even if they had been paid, then they have proven that they are cheats for having taken money and done nothing in return. In fact, their having accepted money is tantamount to accepting bribe which
is an offence. They should be prosecuted with
full might and vigor by the government.
I am sure that the merits and demerits-merits of single party government and the demerits of the coalition arrangement have been more than
amply demonstrated and established.Don’t you
agree?

It was Jansangh (todays BJP) who planted seeds of hybrid government to dethorn Indira Gandhi. Now they have learnt that congress too can run khichadi government where every person expect for his stack for vote.
I like single party system personally but it is dream to those good days of Single party government.

Both the types of governments are good for the rulers- is there any doubt?
Oh ! if you are thinking about the people, the present Indian constitution is not framed FOR the people- rather it is for buying the people and keep the m off the government functioning -that is the result of the 61 years of independent democratic rule in India .

Single Party.
We have seen all the demerits recently. Merits would have been there if there wasn’t so much hatred amongst the parties. The merits of a coalition govt are now non existent.

I think multi party system itself is bad. In multi party system, often one who has been rejected by mejority is elected. For nonsence.
