Coalition

It seems the UK is in a tizzy because their election did not give them a political party majority in Parliament. But I just don’t understand why it is really so bad if the political parties have to form a compromised coalition to rule. As an American, the only time I feel secure is during the congressional non-legislative recess periods and I would be happy to have a hung congress, a congress requiring a Democrat-Republican coalition to pass laws. How many Americans here wish we had a hung congress?

The government that governs least, governs best! Bring on the hung congress!

   I don’t really understand the British system. If we have a tie vote in the Senate, the Vice President or President Pro Tempore of the Senate breaks the tie, or the speaker of the House in the House of Reps.

   In America, you can have a Republican President and Democratic Congress, like during the Reagan years or a Democratic President and Republican Congress like during part of the Clinton administration. In Britain, under the Parliamentary system, if one party is the majority of the Parliament, then automatically the candidate from that party is PM. It might be easier that way, I don’t know. But no offense to Britain, I like our sometimes confusing way better. The branches of government are separate in this country, I don’t know how it works in the UK or other countries.
