Nurses demonstrate against health care cuts at Health Ministers speech

Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) members joined more than 200 people in an Ontario Health Coalition protest outside of a downtown Toronto hotel where Minister of Health Deb Matthews was speaking. Matthews and Primer Dalton McGuinty were criticized for ignoring and downplaying the consequences of provincial government cuts that have closed hospitals for thousands of Ontarians, reduced hospital services, increased user fees, redirected patients to inappropriate facilities and promoted the privatization of health care for profit.

Rift Within Grand Coalition Govt

Rifts within the grand coalition government continued to widen Wednesday, with partners, ODM and PNU going at each others neck. Over 40 PNU mps met Wednesday, 8th April 2009 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre and told their ODM counterparts to expect a vicious political battle. But ODM has maintained its tough stance saying it stands by their party leader Raila Odinga. In their meeting, PNU announced it would soon commence political rallies ostensibly to explain to their supporters the state of politics in Kenya.

Zimbabwe coalition hiccups

Zimbabwe’s Movement for Democratic Change party (MDC) says it is boycotting the country’s unity government over alleged harassment of its members. The partys leader Morgan Tsvangirai who is now the countrys Prime Minister says his party will however not pull out of the cabinet for the time being.
